Positive Thinking: Mind, Body, Soul & Heart Sneak Peek

The reason I wrote this book of poetry was so I could help brighten someone’s day. I wrote these poems when I was younger and I always had this need to express how I felt, but I could only do so through writing. And when I did, I always wrote when I was sad. I didn’t want that to be my poetry’s focus, so I challenged myself to only write about positivity and many people have loved the motivation and inspiration hey have found after reading this poetry book. Here are two poems from the book:

Finding Yourself

As I lay there staring at the ceiling

Wondering where I am

Seeing these foreign sheets

Covering this body of mine

“Is it mine?” I wonder

As I make my way to the mirror

Walking feels different

The way my feet pound to the ground

Making a lifeless thud

Finally facing myself

“Unbelievable,” I say

And my voice, my voice echoes

Like the words are far away

Studying myself now

My nose, my hair, my eyes

Not me, who have I become

One night I’m me, and the next,

I’m what people try to mold

I’m not this imposter

Drowning in the terrors

The pressure to be perfect

The constant critique

For me to see the real me again

I need to escape from here

Find my own path

New Chapter

From the day I was born

To the day they mourn

The me they see

Is the me I’ll be

I never lose who I am

Especially not to my fam

I strive to make the people I love happy

Even the ones who have made me unhappy

You know why?

Because I try not to shy

Away from a challenge

I want to keep balance

Without the equivalence

Of the excitement and boredom

There is no freedom

The choices I have made have kept no shackle

Around my abilities, though they tackle

At my finest moments even

I could have stopped believin’

The reasons I do what I do

Are all for a purpose, only understood by a few

And with support and guidance

I will make an appearance

To this new chapter ahead of me

Am I ready? In my eyes I believe so
