I have been writing for as long as I can remember. I have loved words since I first learned how to write in Kindergarten. Writing has been a consistent hobby turned career choice. I wrote for fun until about 10th grade in high school, that’s when I knew that I wanted to become a writer professionally. People would try to discourage me and tell me I was foolish for becoming an author because writers didn’t make that much money.
I didn’t let their words get to me. When I went to college, I enrolled in the English degree program. I immersed myself in the creative writing electives they had available to make sure my writing was still progressing. Four and a half years later, I graduated from UW-Milwaukee in December of 2015 with my B.A. in English: Technical and Professional Writing. It was one of the proudest days of my life. I accomplished a great feat. I officially became a published author in 2015, with my first book being Positive Thinking. It is a small poetry pocketbook. I was so happy, and I went on to write short stories and finally made it to a full-length novel in 2019.
It was a difficult process initially because I was just learning the ropes and figuring out how I could get my work out there. Self-publishing was the route I chose because I wanted to maintain my creative freedom in all aspects of my projects. I did a lot of research on how to do everything. I knew nothing about cover designers, formatters, etc. I winged it. But within the learning process of the ups and downs, I had fun knowing that my book would finally get to the public. That had been the main goal. Whether I made money or not I wanted to have the book physically in my hand.
I am looking forward to how my writing will progress and continue to move me forward in my career. I love writing and that will never change. I love being able to affect people in many ways. It is a passion that will move with me through my life.
